Tuff-crunch-crunch-tuff-click-clack-clack-crunch-crunch. This sound was familiar to me; my paws scraped along the grass, some dead leaves, and then scraped across some of the rocks. Then my paws found the dead leaves and grass once more. I stood at the edge of the hill; the crumbles and big mass of stone, now destroyed and used for a 'pack den', behind me. Urban and Pandora were still asleep, but I liked to wake up early. I stifled a yawn and stretched my legs. My nose twitched, I felt a sneeze running up my muzzle. Before I could stop it, my head violently slammed down as I sneezed. 'Oww....' I thought, my neck hurting from the sudden jerk. A scent reached my nose right then and I instinctively dropped into a hunting crouch, most of my fur was white; so I had a different hunting crouch than most. I had to disguise myself better.
Soon the scent got stronger and stronger until I spotted the white thing. I grinned, it was just as easy to see as me. I felt a pang of sympathy for the hare, but not enough to skip a meal. I crouched lower, bunching my muscles as my paws lightly scraped the ground, bringing me close enough to the hare so that I could catch it. I kept quite still for only a heartbeat, then I leaned back on my haunches slightly and shoved hard on the ground with my hindpaws. I launched into the air, coming down so close..I always liked to give chase, so as soon as my paw-fur touched the ground, the hare knew I was there, after it, and charged away. A happy smile lit my face, as I set off running before I was fully landed. I wheeled around on my forepaws[that were the only part of me that was on the ground so far] and began a run as soon as my hindpaws touched the ground; darting after it in a split second.
I sped up to full speed, the hare almost out of sight, but then I began to gain on it. I saw some leaves ahead, but I was going too fast to stop; the hare turned right before them and my hindpaws caught on the pile, sending me flying toward the hare, but not in the position I wanted. 'Oof!' the breath was knocked out of me for a tiny second as I hit a tree. I chuckled as I jumped back to my paws, a bunch of leaves and brush stuck in my fur. I gave chase again, when I was two wolf-lengths away from the hare I leapt up into the air again. I let out a mini-howl as my paws pounded the ground again, spreeing me back into a run right behind the white hare. I nipped it's rump, teasing it. It gave a kick of it's hind paws and I lightly grabbed them in my mouth, stopping it's run, but not hurting it. I lightly tossed it into the air, caught it by the neck and quickly snapped it's neck before it could feel any pain.
Oops! I forgot how fast I was going..A big tree was coming up! 'Man! This always happens!' I thought in amusement. I tried to stop myself, skidding on the leaves, trying to sink my claws into the soft earth, but that only made me go faster. Eeeeeeehhh!! I squeaked as the left side of my body slammed into the tree. After a couple moments I forced myself to my paws and shook myself, trying to dispose of the brush, pine needles, leaves, and other little forest brush that had stuck to my pelt. No such luck, I'd have to get it out later. I smiled, the hare still held firmly in my jaws. I turned back toward the place that my mini-pack was sleeping. I had slid down the hill a little and began the short climb back to the top. When I was on the level ground on the hill again, I stretched my legs and gave my fur another small shake; trying to rid myself of the brush, leaves, etc. that still clung to my fur.
A few fell off, but most were still stubborn. I sighed, exasperated. I sat down, tearing a small mouthful off the rather large hare. I chewed it and swallowed, that's when I saw a shadow in the Stone Temple--that's what I called the stony ruins, where my pack "camp" was--I stared at the form for no more than a mili-second. Urban was up early, earlier than usual anyway. I tore off another small mouthful before beckoning him over with a flick of my ears. He was just another wolf to me at this point, one who I was superior to. I also knew that he was bi, not that I cared; I didn't want any other homo wolves in my pack, but with a mental growl, I had allowed it. He had seemed so frail and small, helpless and sad when he had turned up to join my pack.
Besides, I had only a tiny bit of sympathy for him, as I knew what it was like to be an outcast just because you weren't like every other wolf. I didn't want to get close to him though, because I knew the gang would kill him. I didn't want to have to bury another innocent wolf. For a moment, I felt a claw tear open my heart, as I remembered my past; my gorgeous mother, an Archangel, if it weren't for her I wouldn't be alive. And then.......Mahalo. Poor, beautiful Mahalo. I almost planted my ears to my crown in sadness, but I was jolted back to the real world. I was an alpha here, now was not the time to act submissive to a mere babysitter. I stood, my head held high, knowing he would make sure his head was lower than mine; because if he didn't, he would receive punishment.
He should know that. If he didn't, he would soon learn. Not that I was mean, but I demanded respect, because none respected me. Not even Lithium.......not anymore..I wanted to talk to Lithium, I wanted to be her friend again, her best friend, she was my other whole; now I felt empty without her; but I was afraid that she would only hate me even more if I confronted her. I mentally shoved my thoughts away. I barked softly, a sign that I was trying to be friendly now, that he didn't have to be totally submissive anymore[though he still had to be submissive of course].

I was never much of a morning person They say that you can sometimes wake up on the wrong side of the bed, whoever they are, but have they ever considered falling off the wrong side of the bed? More importantly does is count as a double whammy should you happen to do so? Mornings were never my favorite time of day. They say (okay seriously who are they? some beings of higher power or something? i swear if i ever find out who they are i'll be sure to get autographs or something for further reference) that the early bird catches the worm; but what happens to the early worm? Yeah, that's right- he gets eaten! And then when his little worm family wonders why daddy hasn't come home yet they'll have to find out that daddy was an early riser and got himself eaten. Mama worm will have a good time explaining that to her little worm spawn! One has to wonder how they get from being curled up comfortably on their bed and then BAM! nothing but floor! Yes- nothing but cold, hard, floor. Okay so maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration but still, it's extremely unpleasant. And okay, maybe it wasn't the brightest idea to choose a stone ledge as a place to sleep but you live and learn. Going back to sleep was no longer an option so leaving camp seemed like a good idea. Looking around I noticed that Demon had already left, no surprise there. Honestly I don't see why he gets up so early. No, what I really want to know is how! And then there was Pandora. She seemed like an interesting little wolf, I haven't really had a chance to get to know her-but now is definitely not the time. So I left Sleeping Beauty and walked into the morning's embrace. I took a minute or two to yawn, my maw stretching large enough to probably fit a small rabbit in it. Well maybe not a rabbit but probably some sort of small mammal. I trotted forward a few steps, working out the kinks in my limbs, before I noticed Demon munching on a hare on the small hill that over looked the camp. A barely perceptible twitch of the ear and I found myself walking over to join him. I thought highly of Demon, he was alpha after all, but there was still a mysterious air about him. I didn't know much about him and I was hoping to change that, but it was pretty much the same deal as with Pandora- mornings are not the best time to get to know others. Especially when your wake up call includes bodily harm, not that I could say the same for Demon. But I can just suck it up After he seemed to think for a while Demon stood up, his head high, looking as an alpha should. Still half asleep I trotted up to Demon, a lazy smile in place. Standing tall before my leader I couldn't help but feel like something was wrong. Do I have a leaf stuck somewhere or something? Thinking that maybe I had cut myself upon falling out of bed I poked my tongue out of my mouth, tasting for blood. Finding none I looked at Demon, hoping for some kind of hint. Instead a glare graced those hellfire eyes of his, burning holes into my own golden orbs. Oh. Realizing my mistake I cast my eyes downward before laying down on the ground. My embarrassment didn't keep me down for long though because seconds later my bushy tail was swishing back and forth and I was able to meet Demon's gaze again. This time it was much softer. Note to self: Make sure you are fully awake and functioning before interacting with others. No wait, that's not all of it. Other note to self: Pick a new place to sleep to avoid head trauma. There, that's better. Good Morning Demon! Okay so maybe it hasn't exactly been a good morning, well for me at least, maybe Demon had had a better morning. Dropping my gaze again I noticed the white hare that I had seen him snacking on earlier. So let me get this straight: The early bird gets the worm and the early worm gets eaten. The early wolf gets the hare and the early hare gets eaten. Oh great, so now there is probably a little nest of bunnies wondering where their daddy is! Although I probably shouldn't ponder this seeing as I eat hares as well. Then again I'm not the early wolf- oh yeah like that makes it any better! Not like it matters since there is no way I'm becoming a vegetarian, if that's even possible. I sigh, the images of all the animals I've killed running through my mind. Pressing my nose against the ground a different thought crosses my mind. There are probably hundreds of little worms under the ground right now, I wonder how many daddy worms are missing, or at least going through the digestive systems of daddy birds that are happily returning to their families with even more daddy worms to feed all the little baby birds. A small, low chuckles escapes my mouth as I think about how childish these "theories" are. And then I realize where I am and who I'm sitting in front of. Did Demon say something while I was daydreaming? Geez two mistakes in less than ten minutes is not a good personal record. I slowly began to raise my head, as my gaze met that of my alpha's I actually expected the worst. For now at least Words: 969 0.o ... NEW PERSONAL RECORD! Muse: Eh, s'okay -shrug- Status: FINISHED! WOOT! Comments: I really had fun writing this one ^-^

I watched in small amusement as Urban lazily trotted over to me. I could barely see the admiration of me that lit his dreary eyes. I chuckled softly to myself, imagining Urban falling out of his sleeping place. He had chose a rather strange place to sleep last night, away from me and Pandora; as if he though lowly of himself. or something. I mentally shrugged it off. When Urban's lazy trot came to a stop close enough to me, a lazy smile crept onto his face. Geez, what a lazy little bi-wolf, hmm? After a moment or two, he poked his tongue out at me. I grimaced, then saw his tongue slightly moving, as if he was trying to taste blood. I gave him a cross look when he met my gaze and he almost immediately dropped his gaze. He gently slipped his form to the ground and the tip of my left ear sagged over my ear-fur; giving me a pupish appearance. After a couple seconds his tail began to swish from side to side in a wolfy-wag and he met my gaze again.
My gaze had already softened some, as I shoved my thoughts away. Good morning, Demon! he barked cheerfully. He seemed a happier, then he looked at the hare. I backed up a step and gently nudged the prey over to him. I tore one last small piece and ate it. My stomach grumbled, but I mentally growled in reply. I would catch something else later; a mental instinct told me, 'What are you doing? You caught it!' I shoved it away. Urban strangely shoved his nose into the dirt and gazed at it thoughtfully. I gaze at him with a mix of curiosity, scorn, and wonderment. But he didn't see, he pretty much ignored me. I scowled at him, and that's when he looked back at me. I could see him pause, as if mentally reprimanding himself. I locked my gaze on him, looking him over quickly.
I took a step closer, nudging the hare toward him once more. He had obviously not heard my quiet, but friendly bark. Good morning, Urban. Your up mighty early.. '..for you, anyhow.' I added in my mind. Eat your share and save the rest for Pandora. I told him. I hadn't eaten anywhere near my share, way less than it, that is. I promised myself I'd catch something later, though I knew it was a lie. I only hunted for the pack; until I got some providers anyway. Even then, I refused to intrude on the pack's food. They came first, not me, despite my pack laws. Unless the whole pack was present when I ate, they would never know that I took no where near my share. I probably would have finished the hare, had Urban not showed, but I mentally shrugged it off. I usually got a full stomach in the morning, one morning off wouldn't hurt.
I walked over until I was face-to-face with Urban, but from an angle, so that he could still have his breakfast. Something dawned on me, I hadn't been paying attention earlier, but low chuckles had come from Urban when he had had his muzzle pressed to the ground. I almost gave him a skeptical look--too late for that. Nope, that wouldn't be good on my part. He seemed to already feel separated enough from the pack. I decided against it at the last moment, and instead softened my gaze, that was still locked on his. A cracked a friendly smile and gently cuffed his ear in a slightly playful manner. I darted around him, jumping in to snatch the hare from him, then darting out and about him again; trying to see if he would catch on.[What? Alphas can have fun/play too!] Finally, I jumped over him, spun around, snatched the hare and darted quickly toward the Stone Temple.
I gave a quick spurt of energy, lowered my head, as if I was about to bust right through the Temple. I chuckled evilly and, at the last moment, veered right and sped to safety, in case Urban had known what he had been about to do and stopped. Then I turned and looked to see if Urban had fallen for my trap. This all happened in a matter of seconds, so that I could catch the action of whatever Urban did. He was slow-minded, so he would probably crash into the Temple or stumble and fall. I knew, whatever he did, he would make a fool of himself. I smiled grimly, hoping that he would tumble into the Temple, and that would spring him into a playful act; something or a rather humorless glare. I hoped he was as playful and easy-going as I expected of him. If not, then I would have another Pandora in the pack, and that wouldn't set off my day very happy. I grinned widely as I watched the scene unfold.....

It's all fun and games Oddities are becoming quite common now. No matter how small or large they're there- and ready to scare the living hell out of you when they catch you off guard. And the best way to cope with these oddities? Simple, respond with another. After a while it actually becomes quite fun, and for some it brings out another side in them. Some live day-to-day expecting nothing out of the ordinary to happen, same ol' same ol'. Those are the types who give the best reaction when acting out of character. So there are those who don't believe in flexibility...and there are those who live expecting the unexpected. Good morning, Urban. You're up mighty early. Hmph. Major understatement right there! At least he didn't ask me why. Well, Demon, I just thought I'd go on an early morning stroll while the rest of the world was asleep. Sleep? Ha! Who needs it?! The thought of actually saying that to Demon made me chuckle softly. Maybe one day I'd actually be able to joke like that, but I'd have to wait until Demon and I were on better terms with each other. As of right now he was just the alpha and I was just a member of his pack. Besides it's good to have goals, or so they say. Oh boy, it's they again. Geez, I need to stop thinking about that before I decide to spontaneously go hunting for them! After being told to eat my share and save Pandora's portion I timidly took a bite out of the hare. I always had a problem with eating in front of others, but what does one do about that in a situation such as this? Chancing a look upward I caught Demon's gaze and then oddity struck. Demon cracked a smile. It almost went all the way to his eyes and at that moment I thought it suited him, but I secretly made another goal to make that smile reach his eyes. Fate must have had me pinned that day because seconds later another oddity occurred, those pesky things! Demon cuffed me playfully on the ear before darting in and grabbing the hare. A flash of white and both Demon and the hare had disappeared. A playful smirk graced my mouth. Two can play that game. Until another joins in Shakily, I got back up to my feet; laying down must have tempted my body into going back to sleep. Gee, what perfect timing. Attempting to shake off all tiredness I thrashed around for a bit before taking off in the direction I had seen Demon going- towards the den. Putting all the energy I had into my legs I bolted forward and burst into the cave/den. I knew I had to have a wild look in my eyes, fun is always fun at all hours of the day. My head swiveled around until I finally realized that I was alone in the den. Well, except for Pandora whom was probably still sleeping somewhere in the depths of the little cave...lucky duck. And finally, for the first time all morning, a logical thought popped into my brain. Obviously since Demon wasn't in the cave he was somewhere near by. Oh the joys of realization! Then, as suddenly as the first, I discovered another piece of logic: if I actually turned around I wouldn't have to worry about watching my back. I'm on a roll here! Spinning around so I was facing the mouth of the cave I felt ready for anything thrown my way. I heard a shuffling behind me and spun around, stupidly half expecting Demon to appear holding that white hare in his mouth. Mistake number one: Moronically turning around, exposing my back to the mouth of the cave. Mistake number two: Not turning back around fast enough. I must have a sign on my back. Then it's a party Words: 677, geez Status: Finished Muse: Good Comments: I wouldn't be surprised if that happened!

I grinned mercilessly as Urban crashed into the Stone Temple. I whipped out a howl of delight and the hare dropped to the ground in the process. I didn't care; I did a little wolfy-dance before picking up the rabbit and hiding it in a bush. I grabbed a small proportion of it, the smell would lure Urban, and hurried to the Stone Temple. When I was at the place where he had crashed in, I hid by the wall and put the piece of food, hidden, at the entrance. Then I crept around the back, so that I wouldn't be seen, and crept forward; toward a secret entrance I had made in case of emergency[if we were ambushed or something]. I saw Urban turned around, to where the food was and grinned. I was about to launch my attack when he swiveled around--too slow, I carefully noted--facing the direction he had to begin with, except slightly more away from me than before. I chuckled lightly, so that I could not be heard, and bunched up my muscles.
I took in a shallow breath, bunched up my muscles and leapt from my hiding place.
