Link glided through the trees with the lithe grace of a seasoned predator. The wind glided down his taut body, making rivers through his thick black fur. His ears were rounded as his nostrils flared, he could feel the sun shining high above, he had always been attuned to its fragile rays. Many times through his afternoon runs, where the sun was at its highest peak in the sky, he’d felt the touch of its light through the holes in the dense greenery above. He’d run through its blaze once in the past but now he kept to the shadows, guiding his pack with a wise paw and a vicious snarl, with a kind heart and a swat to the snout. His pack would be kept on track, they would patrol, and scent mark, and dig up the soil, and hunt, and keep this territory theirs whilst watching for their enemies all around.
Link wasn’t a paranoid person but being an alpha and having already lost his alpha female some moons ago he had learned deaths bitter lesson and taken caution back from the wind and draped it around his body like a second fur. He would not let any more of his people die because of carelessness. It was spring that meant mating seasons was close at hand and though wolves mate for life he would need to find another alpha female with which to settle down. He may not love her like he’d loved his sweet fur Sage but he would treat her right and they would bare pups strong enough to survive in these times.
Link leaped over a shrub and continued on his way. His tongued lashed out and wet his fangs and lips. He’d tasted a scent on the wind that had stopped him. Slowly his claws dug in to the ground as he slowed from his run that had left him a blur in the shadows of the forest and stood still. He sniffed a tree then raised his leg and released a stream of warning. This was his territory and he would protect it with his life. Lowering his leg he raised his head, his hackles rising and a low growl building in his throat. He could hear movement around him and lifted a paw as a squirrel ran past him. His ears swiveled and traced the nose through the foliage and away.
Sighing Link relaxed the tension in his shoulders and continued on his way. He moved slower now, a trot instead of a full on run. His ears tweaked and swiveled tracing each sound around him for foreign paw falls that weren’t from his pack. Occasionally he’d find one and sniff it, he’d find it benign for the scent had already long left his forest. Link made it around his part of the forest and slowly stopped. Satisfied that nothing was going on he threw his muzzle back and bayed. Long and loud he howled the soprano of his voice echoed from various points in the forest. It was the round up, they would return to their sanctuary; the cave deep in the forest where they would mate and rear their pups for this season.
Link turned and charged back towards the cave, the wind in his fur and a spur in his pride. Despite the thought of his lost mate, mating season always brought a joy to all wolves and he was no exception.

Lifting his muzzle, baring his teeth slightly to take in the scent, making a small puff of mist in front of his nose. It's spring, yes, but there's atmosphere of winter in the sky. The timber male slowly ventured into the dark forest. Region Forest. He knew the forest is so vast, that is the reason he was wary - hidden in the shadows probably a danger. So often he stopped and gave the air a sniff; so far there's no scent of other animals, especially the feathered brutes. The timber gave a quick snort. The only thing he could scent is the musky forest-y smell. So far so good. He mused, but that didn't made his guard wavers. This wolf knew better than having his thoughts to reassure him. He have to reach the heart of forest to do his job. Everybody says a scrawny wolf could not the job of a leaderwolf. How wrong everyone is. If they knew me then... Despite his memory loss, he could remember himself standing on the high place, above his subjects, and howled. He could remember how his head had rose with dignity, how his tail had straightened up with domination, and most of all, he remembered the way his wolves had cowered under him, begging for respect. Shamelessly, he remembered how he had lived off the cowardice of his wolves. How he had longed to have that feeling again, and long to have his name struck the fear into his subjects' hearts.
The timber was so focused in his alpha memories that he didn't notice a faint scent swirling, stroking his nose. His great paw snapped a twig, and he let out a startling yelp and took some paces backwards. Just a twig... just a blasted branch... Nothing of those feathered twits. Archangel. The name of the feathered wolf species popped into his brain; he could still remember the looks even though he had seen the his first [and only] Archangel when he was just pup. That wolf hadn't erased himself from his mind unlike most his memories. He remembered the burly white coat that seemed to shine under moonlight. He remembered how his throat had rippled as he drank from the river. And the way his raven black feathers swished in the breeze. Most of all, these eyes... They were white, hard with some reflections of rippling water; some says Archangels' eyes are the gentlest eyes you ever seen. No. That Archangel's eyes were so... so hard... Suddenly the scent reappeared, and broke off his thoughts; was crawling to his nose. The timber stiffened, daring only to raise his nose. His fur, which had bristled, relaxed, it's not Archangel, but a wolf. Timber that is. He hoped that that wolf hadn't came here to claim the forest... if it is, then he had this wolf to face to. Licking his maw, and not allowing his thoughts to run through his mind, the timber's gait quickened, He had to get there first. His tongue lolled out from his maw, and his body was slightly wet from either the damp atmosphere or from his sweat. He kept quickening until he reached to his maximum speed.
His legs kept moving even when his body screamed him to stop, his tail trailing out behind him. The timber now stopped being cautious, all he cared now was to reach the main part of forest, and face the wolf. The scent trail grew stronger and stronger, it must be near. He reared up; his paws flailing in the air, the scent trail had disappeared. Twisting his body around, he realised that the trail hadn't ended, but made a sharp turn. The frenzied timber walked, he hadn't got energy left to run any more. But what he could do is raise his speed into a trot. A slow trot that is. Getting there... His eyes gleamed excitedly, his ears twitched forwards, and his mouth gaped letting his tongue roll out. Halting in front a thick trunk; the timber spotted a wolf going into a cave. Vicious thoughts swirled in his mind; he's trapped there, without any pack members to help him. Even though his energy level was low, the timber sped into the cave. His eyes gleamed dangerously in the darkness. Raising his voice into the howl in the cave; sure that the other timber will hear him;
"I CLAIM REGION FOREST!" "HAUKUR KLÓ CLAIMS REGION FOREST!" |
If there will be a fight, Haukur Kló is ready to fight. Tooth and claw. [/blockquote]

Link raised his head. He'd heard it, the heavy breathing, the hard clack of claws against the dirt coated stones on the ground and the faint sound of the wind at the caves mouth ruffling fur. At first he'd thought it to be one of his wolves answering the call and returning to the cave, but upon further inspection he'd scented that the wolf wasn't one of his own. Slowly Link stepped away from the den site that was littered with dug out holes and animal bones a few cave flowers here or there and moved towards the sounds.
Suddenly the cry emanated throughout the cave and he knew its far reaching sound would exit the cave and out towards the nearest wolves. Someone was challenging his authority.
No...Haukur Klo was challenging his authority.
A low snarl started in his furred throat and his lips pulled back from white fangs that dripped saliva, his tongue lashed out over his fangs as he moved towards the cry and the ferocity he felt emanated from his very being. Finally he rose up to his full height and towered regally over the timber male his ears erect and his fangs bared in more so annoyance with the pup than anything. His tail swished idly as he stared down at him his eyes gold and glistening from his black face.
"What makes you think you can take this Forest from me Klo? I am Link of the Region Forest Pack and I will accept your challenge."
He had been itching for a fight for days now. None of his wolves had aggravated him in to action so this challenge had come right on time. Bursting with the energy he's received from today's hunt and running around scent marking trees and remind the whelps whose forest this was had been enough of a charge to electrify the bonds of his pack. He would not give it up so lightly.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Haukur Kló's golden eyes gleamed hungrily as he waited for the reply. The only reply is the snarl that seemed had bounced off the looming walls, and silvery liquid was dribbling down from the maw of a timber. Haukur narrowed his eyes, he was thinking twice before challenging this savage wolf. Well, at least he had thought about it; Haukur spat back. The wolf's voice echoed around the walls; "What makes you think you can take this Forest from me Klo? I am Link of the Region Forest Pack and I will accept your challenge." Haukur smirked; and spoke; "Maybe it's a fact that I like this place, and I don't like you?" He let out a short but harsh laugh. Surely this wolf, Link, thinks that he could beat me?! Haukur took a step forwards, in a threatening manner. What he had planned is that he's going to try and push Link to the end of the cave and attack him if possible. Another step, and another. "So, Link," He growled at the name "How good had you been as a leaderwolf?" Kló tilted his head questioningly, but there's menace in his eyes. "Can I be any better?" His head tilted again in the opposite side; his pink tongue licked his maw as if he could taste the blood spurting out from the victim's throat.
Thrusting his head into Link's face, Haukur Kló smiled unpleasantly, "So are you going to lift your measly paw?" His eyes slipped down, staring at the paws. "Hah!" He suddenly whipped around and walked few paces towards the entrance. Lifting and turning his muzzle over his shoulder; "Aren't you going to call for your betas?"Guess not... Turning his body around again and his cheerful menace behaviour vanished. Haukur Kló could remember when he claimed his old pack from another alpha; he even had killed him and took his whining mate. He had killed the cubs of his ex-mate - he had felt threatened then knowing the blood of old alpha was still flowing though his offspring. Haukur knew it's the law of wild. He remembered his last moments as an alpha; a black wolf with deep green eyes had came to him and knocked him out of his senses. That was when he forget everything before his alpha life. After that, he remembered running away. That had hurt him a lot; destroyed his pride and his confidence. And Link's probably going to experience the same thing. Guilt stabbed Haukur's heart briefly, until he reassured himself that he's going to be an alpha afterwards. It's going to worth hurting Link for it. Turning his attention to Link in front of him. Despair briefly flashed in Haukur's own eyes, he didn't want any wolf to experience what he had gone through. Alpha... His Leaderwolf Haukur Kló... Okay, he had thought about this enough. Flexing his great shoulders, the timber snarled. "Are you ready to lose your pack?" He suddenly burst into speed and leapt; aiming to pin his throat...

Link paced back and forth the wind blasting from the entrance of the cave ruffled his fur and sent an all too familiar chill down his spine. There was always blood in the air and Link could feel it, could taste it running with the saliva down his maw, could feel the meat between his fangs as he smote yet another disgruntled whelp to the ground in shame and disgrace. But something aggravated him about this battle for leadership, however annoying as these battles always were Link was always ready to prove his worth to his loving pack, he could feel the sorrow along with the violence in the air.
Link played to that, not falling for the simple minded tricks of trying to push him to the back of the den he quietly circled the ravening wolf to stand near the side of the rather deep dark cave. Now he stood near the side rather than between the end of the cave or the mouth. A neutral area that was perfect for what he felt was about to happen. He listened silently his maw closed with only one fang visible and one ear bent back. He wasn't completely convinced of this ones threat just yet. There was potential in the young wolf, a certain past that made him feel just a touch older than he probably was. But it would not be enough to save him.
Link saw it coming a fraction of a second before Haukur launched. He watched as the pups paw twisted claws flexing, his breathing changed, small tell tale signs that he was getting ready to lunge and then it had happened. Link bent his body in a under-arc, twisting his head back up just as Haukur launched over him and in to the wall. With a quick thrust up he snarled and snapped at Haukur's throat. So deliciously close from the lunge and so wide opened for the attack it was too perfect. Even Link could not have escaped a precise dodge and lunge like this but he had yet to know much about Klo so the attack was an opening.
He felt fangs graze fur and for a split second he was grappling with Haukur's thrashing throat between his fangs and fighting his urge to bite down and tear. He didn't want to kill Klo and that surprised him. He wanted to mortally wound the pup so that he could not fight for his position any longer but he did not want to kill him. After much struggling the first metallic taste of blood entered Link's mouth and with another snarl he threw the younger wolf away as though he were trashed. The throat grip may have been a direct hit and a damaging one but there were burning claw wounds on his side from hesitating for too long. Even if he had managed to injure Haukur's throat to where it would gush and become a hindrance the wounds he'd opened himself up to would slow him down. Maybe not considerably but more than he'd like to admit.
Link wasn't exactly a pup any more after all though he wasn't exactly to old either. Link snarled, snapping fangs at Haukur, rather than taking the advantage of a down wolf Link circled, paced anxiously waiting for the next attack all the while leaving a trail of blood in his wake. His paws pressed to the dirt claws flexed and fangs at the read, his ears were tilted back, all of him looked wild except for his golden eyes. Glistening like headlights in his pitch black face he watched Haukur with kindness and worry, he did not want to do this and that attitude was a dangerous one to take in to a fight.
Link knew his pack came before some lone wolf that made him feel pity in his gullet, knew that he could not let this wolf take charge of his pack and possibly ruin it, cause a rebellion his pack would not stand for the fake leader even if fair was fair. His ears rounded rather than being flat and he slowly made his way towards Haukur.
"Why did you chose this territory to attack Haukur Klo? Why not the Stone Hills? What is in my lands that you seek?" 'I want to help you...'
The last went unsaid as he stared at the wolf with his soft golden eyes. He made another step towards him then stopped his sheer size of 120lbs looming over the smaller wolf. He would smite this threat to his pack even if he didn't want to. But he would have his answers first.

He leapt... his paws stretched out... His snapping jaws gaped open with sticky saliva dripping down from his lips... Haukur Kló was so, so sure that this attack had been unexpected, and he was so sure that he would feel his fangs sinking in the furry throat of Link's. Unexpectedly to him; Link dodged. Then he felt sharp pain in his neck. Then came his gurgling yelp; it was his failing beg of mercy. Panic rose in him, what if Link kills him, what if he tore out his throat and let him to die in the forest painfully, what if... what if....! His mind went blank, Haukur didn't know what to do. Then the black dots in front of his eyes added up, then it went black. Then came a sharp thud on his head... His eyelids opened with a jolt. He realised that he must had passed out before hitting the rock wall. A small growl escaped out from his lips. Lifting his eyes, Haukur Kló saw Link left him to walk around a few circles. There wasn't a savage look in his eyes, but something else. Something else that Haukur wasn't bothered in finding out.
Link turned his black face towards Haukur and spoke; "Why did you chose this territory to attack Haukur Klo? Why not the Stone Hills? What is in my lands that you seek?" At once Haukur didn't reply immediately. He struggled a bit to make sense out of Link's words. Blinking up at the timber alpha, the words are beginning to form for him. He was asking him why did he chose the specific land. Lifting himself to his great paws, Haukur shook a bit, not sure if it's from tiredness, or fear. "I don't know, maybe it's because it's big, or because it's a great source of prey, perfect for filling my empty belly." He smirked weakly, still feeling the blood throbbing in his neck and dripping. Gaining the last bit of his strength; Haukur ran [with a bit limping] and stretched his jaws.

Link felt this attack, watched the shifting of muscles, with all the wounds he was slow and unsteady. Link just stood there, if he dodged he would have damaged more of his pride and that wasn't what he was trying to do. This wolf was in need and Link was an alpha. He stepped forward swiftly his fangs lashed out and bit in to Klo's shoulder.
It was a stopping move that hit the nerves and threw out the legs. It was a hunting move the wolves used on prey they wished to fell faster but a lighter version. He growled in to Klo's shoulder pinning him down, it was a strong snarling growl that was a command for compliance. He would not continue to be attacked, this was his pack and he had won this fight.
Klo was weak, Klo needed to feed and maybe after he had filled his stomach they could have a proper rematch. For he had a feeling the younger timber was as ambitious as a snake and equally as treacherous. He slowly backed away from the fallen wolf and vanished around the corner to the back of the cave.
There was a tearing and ripping sound before Link trotted back around the corner and dropped a large leg from a larger deer like beast that wandered these forests. Their meat was rich in nutrients and would be good for the wolf.
"Enough of this foolish fighting. Accept defeat and join my pack. Here...eat that. Once your healed up and feeling better if you still feel like it feel free to try again."
There was no shame in Link's voice. No reproach or anger, this was the way of things. Link was one to hold his dignity no matter what and he hoped that Klo saw that even if he ran him from his pack he would never hold his head as a submissive again, he would either roam alone until he passed to the great plains in the after life or he would slaughter another Alpha and regain his dignity. Link was an alpha and he defended that title with a viciousness he rarely showed outside of hunting. This was where he belonged, leading a pack with his wisdom.
Link slowly lay down his ears stretched forward, he was breathing evenly now, slowing his heart rate and starting to relax. There was no better way to get through to a stubborn male wolf than through a hearty meal that was fresh and even still a little warm and bleeding.
He nudged the bloody meat towards Klo and licked his chops as he watched the other wolf. His ears swiveled and he looked up hearing the familiar tread of more paws coming this way. Probably someone from his pack at last, they had probably waited around the cave rather than interrupting the sacred ritual of the alpha fight but upon hearing that the fight was probably over they would get brave and come closer.
He snorted and turned his gaze back to Klo. He wanted to help him that didn't mean he entirely trusted him yet.

Heavy paws thundered their way across the territories, as familiar scents meandered through the male’s nostrils. Ever etching nearer towards the forest caves, the pale fire-painted wolf increased his pace. His pink tongue lolled out of his saliva filled mouth picking up further scents in the air.
Some of the other pack members had gathered, watching their alpha in awe. Pepe panted heavily as he made his way up to the entrance, intrigued to see what it was that had grabbed everyone’s attention.
The strong smell of fresh blood ravaged a sudden reaction in Pepe’s bronze orbs, causing an onset of fear and uncertainty. Taking a closer look at the commotion, he noticed that his alpha had come to no serious harm, but had clearly been in battle. Pepe lowered his stance, creeping closer behind his alpha, but kept his gaze upon the intruder. Pepe signaled his support through a low quick bark (not that Link needed the support) also to show off the pack’s strength, and loyalty which would also aid the alphas’ cause.
Not only had the battle proved the alpha’s strength – it had also shown that the pack was a close fit family, and that no one could come in between. However, Pepe was confused as to why Link asked the male to join the group. Pepe was suspicious of the young male and did not take kindly to attackers; a feeling that had been around for a long while…ever since Pepe miss-judged a friendship in his last pack. Trust was hard to come-by with this male; he even kept his watch upon his fellow members, never causing commotion, and never getting too caught up with things.
Yet Pepe felt that it was his duty to meet and greet newcomers, with a warm heart. There were innocence out there, and this new attacker coated himself with deceit. Yet Pepe would honor his alpha’s decision.
The tanned wolf now stood directly diagonal behind Link, snarling and growling in a low tone towards the intruder. Only when he felt it was safe would the male back down.

Faster and faster I speed through life Now I've got to take control Of my mental and my physical Never sheltered from life's hard storms I was cold but now I am warm
_________________________ Natuk padded in to the cave, her body moving serenely and smoothly through the tense air that had been created by Pepe and Klo, she was utterly calm and secure that her Alpha would come out on top, his calming aura was her own as she moved up beside Pepe and snapped at his muzzle playfully. Her white fur stood out against the darkness of the cave like a light that was only matched by her playful green eyes, brightly lit by her excitement of the fight that had passed and the scent of blood and fresh meat in the air.
Natuk lowered her muzzle her ears perked with a stifled kind of happiness. She was at ease with this threatening presence in fact she felt at home in its violent aura. She edged closer then whined when Link snapped her back. She lay down and lay her muzzle between her paws dejectedly. She was after all curious about this stranger that would join their pack. Since she'd heard the snarling and the cry of claiming echoing out of the cave, she had come from playfully chasing a deer through the forest and followed the sounds of other paws crushing the blades of grass and bounding off of tree roots running towards the fight.
She'd come ahead of the group her speed being one that greatly helped in their hunting. She'd spoken to Pepe who had seemed overly worried about Link where she was confident in his victory. She'd learned the hard way that Link was a force to be reckoned with, after all when she'd limped in to the forest from the archangel lands she'd been a vicious wild thing. Nothing like the happy puppy she was now, she'd been battered and abused, she'd been carrying abomination pups that hadn't last. She'd lost the pups and she wasn't sorry about that.
Remembering her sordid past drooped one of her ears but seeing Klo look at her perked it again. She raised her muzzle and cocked her head in a curious but still adorable gesture. She was letting him know that she was interested, that she thought he was spectacular for having the courage to attack Link when all else had failed. She was letting him know that he had a friend. She lowered her muzzle and released a soft whining kind of noise that was stifled by Link dragging his paw against the ground and giving Natuk a chilling look.
She knew all of Link's spots and she quietly rose and lay beside him. Her muzzle brushed up against the side of his as she licked under his muzzle as though begging for forgiveness. She knew he would, after all he was a kind and gentle leader and he knew all her secrets. His ear flickered and she lowered her muzzle knowing she was forgiven. If Link could relax and lay still watching the wolf that had just tried to kill him devour the fresh spoils of a kill they'd worked together to procure then she could relax as well. Her tail whipped up in direction of Pepe and she raised her head and gave him a lopsided wolfy grin, she and Pepe were very different but it didn't mean they couldn't get along.

His neck kept sending out sharp pain, and was throbbing. No, he couldn't lose, just yet, he had to win. He knew he's going to lose this battle, and even could lose his life. Then the sharp canines nipped his shoulder and pulled him down. Haukur Kló felt a rumbling sensation in his shoulder, Link was commanding him to show obedience. The alpha wasn't going to get what he wanted - Haukur snorted, and unwittingly, he lowered his ears and his tail went under his legs. Ashamed of his quick surrender, Haukur closed his eyes. He was getting old. True, three years old isn't that old, but to him, it is. He waited for the killing strike from Link, this was too much even for him. Especially the shame. The strike didn't came. Instead he smelt a sweet tang of meat, then came the voice; "Enough of this foolish fighting. Accept defeat and join my pack. Here...eat that. Once your healed up and feeling better if you still feel like it feel free to try again." Wait, what? Is that flesh, for me? What is he planning? Haukur glared up at Link, confusion clouding his eyes a bit. Most alphas would kill him if they got the chance, but this Link didn't. His neck stretched out, his muzzle gaped a bit allowing his tongue to taste the meat. Every instincts of his screamed not to eat the meat, but he knew he would be foolish not to. His stomach had been empty for few days with some exception of measly meal of mice.
His stomach growled shortly after licking the meat. Struggling to rise up a bit, Haukur soon tore and gulped the food. So perfect, just as he liked it. Warm, and fresh. His eyes flickered up at Link, he was looking at the entrance of the cave, then back to him. Haukur's nose had been so buried in the flesh to notice another wolf's scent. He only looked up when he had heard the wolf's short bark, then some snarls and growls. Haukur's hackles began to rise again. What is this wolf going to do? Attack a helpless wolf? Then he remembered that any wolf will always wait for alpha's reply or actions before doing something. Haukur relaxed a bit, but not enough; he snarled and wrapped his paws around the meat and pushed it towards his blood-stained chest. "Well? What are you looking at?" He looked up and down at the timber, "I'm talking to you, pup!" Haukur smirked at the word "pup". He clearly knew that this wolf is older than him, well, he likes to stir up trouble. "Are you too baby to ignore your alpha's decisions?" A slow smile stretched Haukur's maw. A silent noise of rattling stones, as if someone was entering the cave, echoed Haukur's ears. He wrinkled his nose slightly, will every member of Link's pack enter the cave to see my defeat.
A wolf with soft fur trotted towards the still-standing wolves, Haukur narrowed his eyes, what will she do? Link quickly straightened the she-wolf into line. Good for her. Then he turned his body around, his back facing the wolves. Haukur, then, plunged his muzzle back into the meal, quickly devoured some last pieces, leaving blood circle on the ground. Licking his lips, Haukur felt a pair of eyes boring into him, turning his head over his shoulders, making his cheek fur looks even more fluffier. The she-wolf was looking at him with her head tilted, then let out a quiet noise. Haukur stood, more confidently, and turned to Link, "About that offer, I will think about it. If I decline, I will return to claim the leadership." He narrowed his eyes warningly, then walked, a bit unsteady, to the entrance. His muzzle, again, went over his shoulder ro give the wolves a last look, interesting bunch, I'll admit.
OOC - Haukur's going to stick around in Region Forest for a bit, don't worry =3

As you've already established, Link wins the battle.
Linkeh, could you please come up with a pack name/set of pack rules so I can modify the board to say that the territory has been claimed? =3
